Many people only discover that they have paid too little tax during the year when their annual tax assessment is issued. If your income, assets or personal circumstances have changed during 2026, or if you have international tax matters, investments or other complex tax affairs, it may be worth obtaining an estimate of your expected tax position now. An early review may allow you to make a voluntary payment of any expected tax balance before year-end and thereby avoid or at least limit any unnecessary interest charges.
Outstanding taxes may be more expensive than expected
If you have an outstanding tax liability for the 2026 income year, interest will generally accrue on the amount from the beginning of 2027 until the payment deadline. Any interest charges and surcharges are generally not tax deductible, making an outstanding tax liability significantly more expensive than the tax itself.
By making a voluntary payment to the Danish Tax Authorities before the end of the year, you may fully or partially eliminate the amount on which interest would otherwise be charged.
Are you confident that your 2026 taxes are correct?
Outstanding taxes can in many cases be avoided with timely planning and a clear overview of the tax position. We therefore recommend reviewing your expected tax liability for 2026 already now, particularly if you have investments, cross-border activities or other complex tax matters.
At Redmark, we assist both Danish and international clients every year with estimating their tax liabilities and identifying factors that may result in an outstanding tax balance. A year-end tax calculation provides a solid basis for decision-making and allows you to make a voluntary payment before interest begins to accrue on any outstanding amount.
